Each airline has its own discussion format.
Pick the format that matches the airline you are applying to and rehearse in real conditions.

WonderfulCrew's Open Day Discussion Tips ▼ expand

An Open Day Group Discussion is the airline interviewer's way of testing one thing: can this candidate collaborate with other crew through a 12-hour flight? Pure English ability matters less than your speaking timing and the courtesy you extend to other speakers.

Speaking timing that wins

  • Speak 2nd or 3rd — going first carries pressure, going last gets forgotten.
  • Briefly cite one earlier opinion, then layer your own on top.
  • Take roughly 1/N of the air time — neither monopolize nor stay silent.

Discussion structure (English template)

"I really like what Sarah said about teamwork. To add to that, I think communication is also key — especially when working with passengers from different cultures."

The closer earns extra credit

When the discussion winds down, naturally summarize with "So if I summarize what we've discussed..." Interviewers notice the candidate who balances leadership with active listening.

Recurring discussion topics

  • "What is the most important quality of a cabin crew?"
  • "Design your ideal in-flight service."
  • "Solve this customer complaint scenario."
  • "Choose 3 items to bring on a desert island."
