International Airline Grooming Guide

Important: International airlines—especially Middle Eastern carriers—prefer makeup that may feel bolder than what you are used to. A soft, barely-there look can read as "no makeup at all" to an international interviewer, so apply it noticeably more defined than your everyday style.

💄 Makeup

International carriers, particularly Middle Eastern airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Etihad, expect a polished, clearly defined look. If you find yourself wondering "is this a touch too bold?"—that is usually the right level.

  • 🎨 Base: Full-coverage foundation for a flawless, smooth complexion
  • 👁 Eyes: Well-defined eyeshadow in brown, gold, or burgundy tones with a clear, bold eyeliner
  • Lashes: False lashes are strongly recommended—choose full, lengthening styles
  • 💋 Lips: Red or deep coral. A vivid lip colour is the standard
  • 🖌️ Contouring: Shade along the nose bridge and jawline for dimension—a sculpted face is essential
  • Highlighter: A subtle glow on the cheekbones and nose bridge

Everyday Makeup

  • Natural semi-matte finish
  • Soft brown eyeshadow
  • MLBB lip colour
  • False lashes optional
  • Minimal contouring

International Airline Makeup

  • Full coverage, flawless skin
  • Defined eyeshadow and eyeliner
  • Red or deep-coral statement lip
  • False lashes strongly recommended
  • Contouring and highlighter essential

💇 Hair

  • Always an updo: A clean chignon or low bun with absolutely no flyaways—hairspray is non-negotiable
  • Hairnet: A fine hairnet placed over the bun creates an even cleaner finish
  • Colour: Natural tones are the safest choice. Avoid overly bright blonde shades
  • Baby hairs: Smooth down the hairline using a fine-tooth comb and strong-hold spray for a polished finish

👔 Attire

  • Style: Business formal. A dress, skirt suit, or trouser suit with a tailored jacket all work
  • Colour: Choose a shade that flatters you. You do not need to mirror Emirates red or Qatar burgundy
  • Note: Avoid mini skirts and overly tight silhouettes. Choose fabrics with stretch in case of an arm-reach test
  • 👠 Shoes: Classic pumps in a dark tone, 5–7 cm heel
  • 🧦 Hosiery: Nude tights. Laddered tights are a clear no—always carry spares

💅 Nails & Accessories

  • 💅 Nails: Always polished—clear varnish is acceptable. It signals that you are service-ready
  • Accessories: Small pearl or cubic earrings. Nothing oversized or attention-seeking
  • ⌚ Watch: Wear one—it symbolises punctuality and reliability
  • 🌺 Fragrance: Light and subtle only. Middle Eastern carriers fly fragrance-sensitive passengers, so restraint matters

📏 Scars / Tattoos / Height / Arm Reach

  • Scars: Emirates tends to be more lenient than Qatar Airways. Cover small marks with concealer; larger scars must be declared
  • Tattoos: Any tattoo visible in uniform (arms, wrists, hands, ankles) is disqualifying. Tattoos in hidden areas are usually fine when properly declared
  • Height: Emirates requires roughly 160 cm. Daily yoga and stretching can add a small but real margin
  • Arm reach: 212 cm to close overhead bins. Going on tiptoe is permitted. Keep up consistent shoulder mobility work
